Mediation for Peace Certificate Program-IV

Within the framework of the decisions titled "Strengthening the Mediation Capacity of the OIC" adopted by the OIC Foreign Ministers' Council (FMC) in order to contribute to the development of mediation capacity within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the fourth "Mediation for Peace Certificate Program" for the diplomats of the OIC Secretariat and OIC Member States was held in Ankara on 23-27 October 2023. 20 diplomats, 15 from the OIC Secretariat and the Foreign Ministries of the OIC Member States and 5 from our Ministry, participated in the Program this year.

During the training program, in addition to local and foreign academics who are experts in the field of mediation, speakers from the OIC, the United Nations (UN), the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), as well as directors and senior advisors from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Norway and Finland, the Swiss Center for Peace Studies (Swisspeace) and the Crisis Management Initiative-Martti Ahtisaari Peace Foundation (CMI), with whom we have joint initiatives on mediation at the OSCE and the UN made comprehensive presentations on mediation, negotiation skills, conflict prevention and peaceful resolution, Turkey's experience in mediation, the role and efforts of international organizations in mediation and conflict prevention, mediation process design, conflict analysis, mediation skills and process design, inclusiveness in mediation, and the relationship between digital tools and mediation.

Throughout the program, participants gained theoretical knowledge on mediation and conflict prevention, as well as the opportunity to put this knowledge into practice, especially through group work conducted by the instructor.

On the last day of the program, certificates were presented to the diplomats who completed the program.
