Training Program for the Pacific Island States
December 7-22 , 2013 Ankara, Bursa, Çanakkale, İstanbul
Diplomacy Academy organized a “Training Program for the Diplomats of the Pacific Island States” between 7-22 December 2013 in Ankara, Bursa, Çanakkale and Istanbul with the participation of one diplomat from each of the 9 island states (Cook Islands, Fiji, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu).
In Ankara, participants took seminars on “Turkish Foreign Policy”, “Turkey’s Economy and Development Policies”, “Turkey’s Relations with the United Nations and the Pacific Region” and our candidacy for the temporary seat in the UN Security Council for the term 2015-2016. The Seminars were given by the bureaucrats of The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and leading academics from various universities; Participants also visited Anıtkabir and Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency in Ankara.
In the scope of the program, participants had chance to explore cultural and historical sites and natural beauty of Bursa; learn about one of the turning points of Turkish History, Gallipoli War, by visiting Çanakkale Martyrs’ Memorial site in Çanakkale; visit Topkapı Palace Museum, Hagia Sophia Museum, Blue Mosque, Dolmabahçe Museum and Grand Bazaar in Istanbul. Participants also attended lectures on “Foreign Policy”, “Negotiation Techniques”, “Conflict Resolution” And “Mediation”.
